Job Summary
Installs, configures and maintains hardware and associated peripherals, operating systems and software. Actively performs daily, routine and complex system administration/maintenance, including hardware and software upgrades, system recovery and performance tuning. Participates in conjunction with application stakeholders (as applicable) and ensures that all software patches are up to date. Maintains documentation of the environment, including but not limited to backup software management, backup hardware management, Operating System hardening procedures, change management, work orders and on-call.
Works closely with DBA teams to make sure backups are performed and usable. Monitors system security and performance; troubleshoots security probes and hardware/software errors. Investigates and provides information to technical and project leads about operating system and utilities features and limitations. Designs and codes programs and scripts. Follows industry recommendations and department programming standards to ensure code efficiency. Troubleshoots and repairs existing scripts and provides input on code fixes and alternative solutions.
Attends team meetings, and communicates (verbally and in writing) programming and system to appropriate staff and customers. Presents findings, recommendations and specifications both verbally and in writing. Provides time and resource estimates to managers for new projects as well as problem resolution. Tests applications and analyzes program output and error logs. Designs and Implements environments in support of mission critical applications required to be highly available using backup hardware/software. Continuously looks for system weaknesses and ways to improve on that which is currently implemented.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
