Job Summary
Utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis. Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis. Knowledgeable of GIS software and technology. Works in conjunction with CADD drafters and technicians.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and at least 3 years of experience in a related area. Essential Functions
1. May develop databases, application programs, and manage projects
2. Compiles data from a variety of sources.
3. May provide training/workshop facilitation on GIS software and implementation for students, faculty, and business partners.
4. Validate accuracy of data, and updates databases accordingly.
5. Obtains and analyzes GIS data from a variety of sources
6. Produces data that is sufficiently cross platform compatible.
7. Assists in the planning, research, development, and preparation of projects, exhibits, online modules, manuscripts and presentation materials of GIS analyses.
8. Maintains files and records of research data.
9. Drafts correspondence to answer inquiries and respond to requests about the projects.
10. Edits research papers, project reports, and publication materials.
