Job Title: Lighting Specialist
Job Code: 0685 Grade/FLSA: C/Non-Exempt

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the assessment of the quality and efficiency of exterior and building lighting. Develops and facilitates new and retrofit projects. The lighting specialist interacts with electricians, engineers, lighting contractors, energy management, and project managers. Leads the effort to develop appropriate lighting standards across campus.

Qualifications

Associates Degree in Energy Management, Lighting Technology, or related field. Minimum of 1 year of experience conducting lighting studies, managing projects and/or directing and inspecting the work of implementation teams. Excellent Communication and Analytical Skills. Knowledge of University buildings and systems preferred.

Essential Functions

1. Program Management: Identify projects and potential funding sources. Facilitate the efforts of consultants and vendors. Measure and verify system performance. Ensure proper maintenance of systems is completed.

2. Exterior and Building Lighting Audits: Inconjunction with University and outside staff, perform audits/surveys of buildings and outside areas at various hours to verify sufficient lighting and identify energy efficiency opportunities

3. Development of Lighting Standards: Work with internal and external resources to create appropriate lighting standards for the campus.

4. Design Review: Participate in the design review process as it pertains to lighting and ensure appropriate fixtures and systems are used.

Problem Solving

This position is required to solve problems related to lighting adequacy and efficiency. Deficiencies are to be identified with recommendations developed, and implementation of those solutions.
