Job Title: Paralegal

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, provides support to attorneys by researching legal precedent, investigating facts, or preparing legal documents. Conducts research to support a legal proceeding, or to initiate legal action.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalency plus one year of experience required. The ability to provide guidance and give direction to staff members in other departments and divisions and excellent human relations and written and verbal communication skills are also required

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with three or more years experience in a legal environment. Certification as a paralegal may be preferred.

Essential Functions

1. Resolves routine legal issues under the direction of an attorney.

2. Prepares legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, and contracts,

3. Prepares affidavits or other documents, maintains document file, and files pleadings with court clerk.

4. Gathers and analyzes research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents.

5. Investigates facts and law of cases to determine causes of action and to prepare cases.

6. Directs and coordinates law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.
