Job Summary

Promotes the use of technology based resources in learning and teaching and provides consultation, instruction, and assistance to faculty, students, and staff related to the editing, design, production, and instructional technology of curriculum development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) plus 2-4 years experience, preferably in an online education environment; knowledge of learning theory with the ability to apply the theory into practice; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, and DVD Authoring tools; strong editing skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting. 

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred

Essential Functions

1. Assists faculty with technology based course development, design and delivery techniques, visual aid development, media and technology selections.
2. Educates faculty and staff on instructional design and technology, best practices, and copyright issues for effective participation in Distance Education efforts.
3. Consults with faculty members on the curriculum development process and allocation of resources.
4. Advises faculty on advantages, disadvantages, and feasibility of various methods of instruction specific to their course content.
5. Acquires copyright permission through the Copyright Clearinghouse Center or rights holders as needed.
6. Provides instructional design training to educate faculty on its potential as a resource.
7.  Researches new technologies, innovations, and production practices and evaluate the potential value to the organization.
8. Edits hard copy faculty manuscripts for print-based courses and electronic content for online courses
9. Establishes and maintains project management protocols for course development and production.
10. Creates cooperative working relationships with Faculty, departments, schools, and other persons or entities involved in the development of Distance Education courses.
11. Develops and implements evaluation techniques to measure appropriateness and effectiveness of course content, materials, teaching activities, and technologies.
12. Coordinates with other members of the Distance Education Development team and assist when necessary.
13. Develops effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
14. Reviews courses thoroughly every two years and updates/revises appropriately.
