Job Summary

This is a trainee position designed to provide opportunities under the supervision of a licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to the patient and their family/significant other. It also includes clerical duties to help facilitate patient flow through the clinic.

Qualifications

Current Basic Life Support Card or completion of certification within six months of hire and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Demonstration of proficiency in the clinic’s baseline skills within six weeks of hire is also required.

One year of health-related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) is preferred, but not mandatory.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Essential Functions

1. Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures and provided training.
2. Obtains and records patient temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, weight and height measurements and patient responses to standardized medical history questionnaires according to clinic procedures.
3. Reports all observed or transmitted patient concerns/changes in condition to a licensed staff member.
4. Performs CLIA Wavered Lab tests such as urine dip stick, Hgb, Hct, finger stick, glucose, hemoccults, hCg and reports results to the appropriate personnel. May perform patient phlebotomies in accordance with clinic procedures and physician orders after specialized training.
5. Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested and assists with approved procedures.
6. Performs delegated approved procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.
7. Assists in patient and family education by providing educational material and general health information to patients and family members.
8. Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment reporting outdated supplies, stock levels and restock set levels of items and necessary equipment repairs.
9. Answers telephones, reports telephone messages, schedules appointments, diagnostic tests and procedures as requested by licensed staff members.
10. Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing of medical information in patient records, locating and compiling clinic charts, obtaining medical records from other providers and entering charges for billing purposes.
11. Attends and completes mandatory in services including infection control, safety, CPR, equipment usage and on equipment procedures according to hospital and clinic policies.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
