Job Summary
Directs and manages all functions pertaining to registration activities, policies, procedures, records maintenance, verification of student records, official transcripts, graduation, identification cards, microfilming and veterans affairs and appellate committees.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Education Administration, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); seven years of progressively more responsible and related experience in a registrar's office at a large university that includes supervisory and budget experience; a working knowledge of automated student systems, including telephone registration and degree audit; and student services required.
Master's degree is preferred, as is a working knowledge of the University of Utah campus and catalog, student services offices, University Regulations and Policies and Procedures.

Essential Functions
Problem Solving
The University Registrar has the authority to hire/fire; administer the department budget; interpret and direct the implementation of policies approved by the Academic Senate and other governing bodies; establish internal controls to account for money received; and make exceptions to policy in extenuating, or unusual circumstances.
Problems encountered by the incumbent include anticipating student and department needs, and taking the initiative to develop programs and systems, to fully address them. He/she must also resolve issues involving students who are angry because they have attempted established avenues of redress without satisfaction.
Comments
The Registrar is the custodian of the Master Academic Records System (MARS) and approves, or denies requests for user access to the data base. S/he also maintains records on current and former students. These records number in the hundreds of thousands.
