Job Title: Seismograph Technician

Job Summary

Maintains, installs, repairs, performs system upgrades and operates the 50-station telemetered seismic network in Utah and southeastern Idaho.

Qualifications

Associate degree in Electronics or equivalency; two years of work experience in electronics required; and a valid Utah Driver's License required. Demonstrated communications skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service also required. Previous fabrication experience and basic understanding of voltage-controlled oscillator, solid-state amplifiers and VHF radio links preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains 50 station seismic network; repairs failed stations and radio links; identifies problems, initiates trouble calls; changes air cells as required; makes electronic and mechanical adjustments as required.
  2. Implements improvements to field stations such as conversion of power sources to solar, making the necessary physical changes to stations; installation of lighting protection; burying exposed cables; conducting tests to eliminate noise sources; handling telemetry rearrangements, making associated frequency changes as required; and relocating stations as necessary.
  3. Installs new stations to include handling preliminary siting and permitting including telemetry routing; preparing equipment, performing site construction work; installing and debugging electronics and telemetry equipment.
  4. Maintains all network records to include station visit history, equipment repair history, calibration data and road logs.
  5. Maintains shop area, vehicles and associated test equipment.
  6. Provides support to researchers in assisting with special projects.
