Job Summary
Assists in the planning, preparation, design and installation of temporary, permanent and traveling museum exhibits. Locates, designs and constructs materials for displays and ensures lighting for exhibits meets conservation specifications. Performs preventative maintenance for exhibits and shop materials.
Qualifications
Five years experience in exhibit preparation, carpentry and fabrication or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Working knowledge of display techniques and specifications including understanding of various materials used in fabricating displays; ability to secure and pack materials for shipping. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required in order to interpret instructions and present exhibit preparation information.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Problem Solving
The incumbent must be able to improvise when resources such as funding, time and physical space are limited. Many of the specimens used are invaluable and a great deal of care must be given when working with the exhibits. Incumbent diagnoses display malfunctions, performs minor repairs and determines when to call a qualified service technician for more complex repairs.
