Job Summary

Patrols University parking lots or streets enforcing parking policies and regulations in order to keep parking areas accessible to authorized permit holders and special-use patrons. Prepares lots for special event parking.

Qualifications

Two years related parking enforcement experience, or equivalency; a valid Utah's Driver's License; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.

Must be able to pass a background review.

Essential Functions

  1. Patrols parking lots, which involves checking for proper permits and issuing citations for improper parking.
  2. Assists in providing motorist services to the University community and the public such as starting cars, directing people to available parking and specific buildings on campus.
  3. Assists visitors and registered users of the campus parking system in understanding regulations and the availability of parking in different areas of the campus.
  4. Processes copies of issued citations and completes forms related to work performed during shift.
  5. Directs traffic in parking lots during special events such as football, basketball, entertainment events, theatrical productions, or University wide events (commencement).
  6. Impounds vehicles parked in tow-away zones or that involve excessive citations in accordance with departmental procedures.
  7. Testifies in court involving contested citations as requested by the Attorney General’s office.
  8. May set up, take down, maintain and inventory all equipment needed for special event parking.
  9. May collect revenue from day pass machines and meters.
  10. May perform preventive maintenance on parking lot equipment and order new equipment as needed.

    Comments

    The incumbent may be required to work overtime hours during the evening, weekends and holidays as required. He/she must wear a department issued uniform, patrol in all types of weather, and be able to withstand a high stress environment.
