Job Title: Multimedia Developer

Job Summary

This position performs as a video graphic developer, which involves working with production teams to execute design elements into graphic templates for video productions. It acts as a back up video editor to edit KUED and contract programs, promotional spots and underwriting credits on the AVID, Final Cut Pro or CMX computer editing systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Development, Media Arts, Communications, Graphic Development or related field plus three years demonstrated experience to include: imaging or multimedia development, audio operations, editing or equivalency required. Extensive experience with both Macintosh and PC platforms and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

(Multimedia Developer)

  1. Coordinates with producers and production team to execute design elements into graphic templates to be used in video productions.
  2. Sets guidelines, developing systems and protocols to assure quality in the graphic development.
  3. Provides technical, specialized and aesthetic advice on project plans and designs in order to meet imaging and video production needs.
  4. Utilizes Television graphic/character generator tools and both Macintosh and PC based computer software.
  5. Facilitates a graphic users group that will provide needs assessment information and provide a forum for shared information of graphic advances and new developments.
  6. Provides training to KUED staff on graphic protocols and production techniques.
  7. Keeps current on unfolding developments and resources in graphics and multimedia imaging and makes recommendations to the Production Supervisor on graphic purchasing decisions.
  8. Proactively communicates with fellow workers and supervisors the progress of projects under production and keeps project directors appraised of challenges, problems, successes and design alterations that may be encountered.
  9. Provides basic maintenance; files cleaning and archiving of current and past graphics on an as needed basis.
  10. (Back Up Video Editor Duties)

  11. Performs linear editing through the operation of the CMX, including indirect supervision of video, audio and graphics operators to achieve quality programming.
  12. Measures and corrects color balance, video levels, chroma, burst phase and chroma phase.
  13. Recognizes audio difficulties including improper levels and poor sound quality and mix from audio board to enhance the sound presentation.
  14. Operates Video Switcher, Digital Effects, Computer Graphics, DVE and other equipment as designed for use in on-line room.
  15. Assures adherence to department and university policies as well as FCC rules and regulations pertaining to technical standards.
  16. Performs basic maintenance and setup of computer system and related equipment; identifies and isolates technical problems within the editing system to ensure proper working order.

    Problem Solving

    Incumbents have the authority to work with the Producer/Directors by providing assistance with aesthetic and editing decisions for KUED productions as well as contract productions. They recommends equipment needs and upgrades for the CMX, AVID and Final Cut Pro rooms to the Video Editing Team Leader, Engineering and Operations Director. They also have the authority to make creative decisions in collaboration with production and promotion personnel and the authority to edit and critique the work of video, audio and graphics operators.
