Job Title: Landscape Gardener

Job Summary

Responsible for accomplishing all duties that pertain to grounds maintenance, gardening and the operation of equipment necessary to maintain the campus.

 

 

Qualifications

Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program as a Master Gardener or equivalency required. Equivalency is a minimum of 3.5 years progressively more responsible grounds experience working on five acres or more. Knowledge of the common names of trees, shrubs, monocots, and dicots; a valid Utah State Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License and a Drivers License and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Essential Functions

  1. Controls weeds with chemicals applied by power or hand sprayers.
  2. Operates grounds equipment of various types.
  3. Maintains lawns by completing essential tasks.
  4. Prepares grounds for seeding and transplanting.
  5. Responsible for the health, care and appearance of a variety of trees and shrubs.
  6. Ensures that all grounds maintenance within assigned area is accomplished.
  7. Ensures that tasks are completed expediently and efficiently.
  8. Performs snow removal.
  9. May train new employees and carry out other assignments as directed by the Crew Leader.
  10. May work with and act as a lead worker over seasonal help.

Problem Solving

This position has the authority to prioritize work assignments within the scope of the department's workload and the guidelines of the University and Grounds Department policies and procedures.

 

Comments

This position requires irregular hours and will be scheduled to work on-call hours during the winter months including weekends and holidays. The individual will be required to work overtime when needed.
