Job Summary

Provides planning, direction and coordination of the financial and accounting affairs of the University in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices and University policies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Accounting, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus seven years experience in progressively more responsible financial and accounting positions, which includes a minimum of four years of supervisory experience, the ability to work in a highly complex business environment, and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required.

A CPA is preferred, as is college or university experience.

Essential Functions

1. Directs and coordinates the work of the specialized departmental units involved in accounting functions, such as payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting, governmental contract accounting, etc.
2. Monitors actual departmental operating expenses to assure compliance with budgetary limitations.
3. Develops, installs and modifies accounting systems and procedures.
4. Interprets financial accounting policies for staff and other University personnel.
5. Prepares and negotiates the indirect cost proposal with the federal government.
6. Handles all relations with state, federal and other external auditors.
7. Completes special projects and assignments as directed by the Assistant Vice President for Administrative Services.
