Job Summary

Provides primary engineering support for KUER in order to ensure compliance with regulations of the Federal Communications Commission and to meet the technical production values of the station.

Qualifications

Associate degree in electronics or related field or equivalency; two years experience in electronic maintenance, preferably in broadcast engineering; and a current FCC broadcast license required. Must have demonstrated communication and organizational skills.

Essential Functions

  1. Plans, organizes and directs the engineering needs at KUER. Develops and implements departmental goals and objectives.
  2. Coordinates related work issues with other departmental personnel. Participates in the decision making process affecting all other KUER employees by attending meetings and retreats.
  3. "Chief Operator" of KUER, ensures that technical operations meet professional and FCC standards to include regular performance evaluation of all equipment to insure OEM and manufacture specifications.
  4. Provides preventive maintenance and repair, including documentation for all equipment.
  5. Instructs staff in the proper techniques regarding operation and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Monitors departmental expenditures; provides input in the development of the annual budget; participates in long-range planning activities for the station.

Problem Solving

The incumbent works independently in performing engineering tasks and has responsibility to ensure the station remains on-air. When troubles arise this position must be able to rapidly diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment that is in constant use.

Comments

The nature of the position requires occasional long hours and 24-hour on-call status.
