Job Summary

May install voice and data cabling/wiring, fiber optic cabling or assist with telephone moves, additions and changes.

Qualifications

This is an entry level position. The ability to distinguish colors, lift 80 pounds, work on ladders and in confined spaces and possess a valid Utah Driver’s license is required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communications skills are also required.

Previous related work experience installing and terminating voice and data cabling preferred.

Essential Functions

  1. Installs voice and data cabling/wiring, fiber optic cabling or assisting with telephone moves, additions and changes.
  2. Removes old data cabling/wiring or fiber optic cabling from buildings, conduits and manholes.
  3. Takes physical inventory of cabling within and between buildings, conduits and manholes.

Problem Solving

The incumbent completes work under direct supervision of the department manager, supervisor and/or designated project lead.

Comments

The incumbent is required to complete work in locations throughout the main campus, hospital, Research Park and some off-campus locations. They may occasionally be required to work before or after normal working hours to minimize disruption to departments.

Once an incumbent is no longer a temporary employee in this position, they are eligible to participate in the skill based pay on the job training program.
