Job Summary

Ensures the safe and economical operation of all building equipment pertaining to Plant Operations at the hospital.  Ensures that the breathing air and vacuum systems are functioning properly.

Qualifications

Eight years of progressively more responsible experience in hospital facility maintenance with two of those years in a leadership position required.  General working knowledge of positions supervised, applicable codes and ordinances and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Dependent upon department of assignment, a journeyman certificiation in at least one of the trades supervised and a valid Utah driver's license may be required.

Completion of hospital supervisory training program within one year of hire required.

This position has no responsibility for providing patient care.

Essential Functions

  1. Takes readings off of equipment to assure it is operating properly.
  2. Adjusts and calibrates equipment that is reading out of accepted parameters.
  3. Checks brine tank levels and orders salt as needed.
  4. Checks oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and other gas levels.  Changes and orders cylinders as needed.
  5. Operates three building automation systems and responds to system alarms due to equipment failures.
  6. Operates fire alarm systems and responds to fire alarms. Files reports for  "Fire Safety Committee" review.
  7. Resopnds to all Hospital trouble reports on back shifts and weekends. Calls in technicians as necessary.
  8. Performs preventive maintenance on air handlers, pumps, compressors and other plant equipment as assigned.
  9. Maintains assigned equipment room by keeping it clean and organized.

Problem Solving

This position oversees projects and budgets for multiple shops and trades.  As a result, the incumbent needs to employ a diverse set of skills and must have the ability to resolve any kind of issue at any time.  Mechanical problems often require immediate attention due to the number of critical life support systems that are supported.  The incumbent may be required to urgently reallocate personnel and resources from other projects to respond to emergency calls.

Comments

This position is on-call 24/7 and is responsible for employees and facilities day and night.
