Job Summary
Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of the department by hiring and training new staff, evaluating performance, scheduling work shifts, monitoring of supplies and inventory and preparation of statistical reports.
Qualifications
This position requires eight years of related experience with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity; demonstrated human relations, and effective communication skills.
Depending on the area of assignment, related experience could include medical billing and collections, medical records, pre-authorization, admissions, or other related experience.
A Bachelor's degree in a related area, such as Accounting, Business, or Healthcare Management, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) may be preferred.
Some positions may require knowledge of accounting, collections, coding, cash postings, data entry, and/or medical terminology.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Essential Functions
Problem Solving
The incumbent has the authority to develop department staffing schedules, which may include duty assignments, vacations and other requests for time off. The incumbent is authorized to enforce the department’s written standards of practice, policies and procedures and initiate corrective action as necessary. The incumbent is actively involved in the hiring interview process and will have direct input into the selection of new employees. The incumbent assumes the major responsibility for the employee evaluation process. The incumbent recommends purchases for the acquisition of necessary supplies.
Major challenges encountered by the incumbent include scheduling work shifts and making any adjustments to the schedule in response to staff absences so all job duties are performed. Another challenge is evaluating job performances to insure department job standards are being maintained and taking action to correct problems. The incumbent will perform quality assurance duties to maintain preventive procedures on equipment and/or instruments.
