Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating department/program schedules and may perform other related duties pertaining to staffing, surgery, equipment purchasing, and expenditure.

Qualifications

This position requires three years of experience working in a medical office, clinic, with an emphasis in scheduling; a related area or equivalency; and demonstrated effective communication, human relations, and computer skills.

Some areas of assignment require completion of a medical terminology course, certification related to specific area, and/or additional years of related experience.

Essential Functions

  1. Depending on the area of assignment, coordinates schedules for staffing, surgery and surgical procedures, in accordance with University and departmental policy and procedures.
  2. Maintains schedule by revising and updating them as necessary depending on circumstances.
  3. Coordinates services with other departments.
  4. Provides statistical reports and participates in quality improvement projects by developing data collection tools, analyzing, compiling and reporting data, and providing input to the QI process.
  5. Assists in overseeing the purchasing functions, including ordering supplies, surgical instruments and equipment.
  6. Prepares training material and coordinates training of staff.
  7. May supervise employees through work direction, performance evaluations, and counseling.
  8. May obtain insurance pre-authorization and other related appropriate documentation.
  9. Compiles and maintains accurate departmental records to include but not limited to payroll and employee information.
  10. May monitor staffing requirements and assures compliance with DNV.

Problem Solving

This position has the authority to coordinate, revise and maintain the department/program schedules and is given authority to perform their daily work routines within the scope of the unit’s standards of performance.

Comments

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required

Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking. 

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
