Job Summary
Ensures the efficient, safe, and proper operation and maintenance on the steam and hot water systems including all piping, valves, and related equipment. Checks, constructs, assembles, repairs, and maintains the piping systems in order to provide adequate and safe steam heat to the various buildings on the University campus.
Qualifications
Two years experience working with steam and/or hot water heating or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); a Certificate of Asbestos issued from the State of Utah (if removing asbestos); a thorough knowledge of boiler operation, vessels and assorted devices associated with the heating system; demonstrated customer service skills; and oral and written communication skills required. A thorough knowledge of all power and hand tools required in repairing and maintaining heating systems in general. Journeyman certification is preferred.
A Certificate of Asbestos is obtained by the successful completion of a comprehensive examination after completion of four ten-hour training sessions. The certificate must be renewed each year after successful completion of a refresher course.
