Job Title: Radiologic Technologist

Job Summary

Performs radiographic procedures involving the application of ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis.

Qualifications

Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah; successful completion of a formal radiologic technology training program; registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Basic Life Support Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Some positions may require graduation from an AMA approved school in radiologic training; and certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Essential Functions

  1. Performs radiographic procedures; critiques radiographs and images to maintain quality control program.
  2. Selects film, adjusts and programs a variety of film changes, including cinefluorography, and may develop films.
  3. Coordinates the activities for the technical services in the operating room and the portable x-ray area.
  4. Performs special procedures with the use of ultrasonic equipment.
  5. Maintains the necessary precautions for excessive exposure to radiation and electric shock.
  6. Assesses patient vital signs and condition when indicated during exams.
  7. Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  8. May assist in orienting new employees or students regarding functions of the department.
  9. Prepares, cleans and stocks rooms with supplies and linens.
  10. May participate on department and hospital committees; and provide inservice training to hospital staff.

Problem Solving

This position has the authority to report equipment failure to appropriate department personnel for immediate attention or serviced by an equipment technician. The incumbent has the authority to utilize their own discretion in selecting proper film size, exposure factors and the ability to correct exposure problems.

Major challenges encountered by the incumbent include balancing and prioritizing the work load requirements of the day while maintaining the needs of the department and providing flexibility to assist physicians in completing examinations.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting. 

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
