Job Title: Parking Valet/Service Officer

Job Summary

Provides assistance and information to incoming patients, visitors and staff to facilitate their entrance to, or exit from the hospital. Provides valet parking services for hospital patients and visitors, assists with traffic control in hospital parking areas; and maintains accurate documentation regarding valet parked vehicles.

Qualifications

Two years related experience such as customer service, parking enforcement or as a parking attendant; a valid Utah Driver’s License at time of hire with no moving violations in the last two years; and a Heartsaver AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrilator) certification or obtain one within one month of hire required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

  1. Parks and retrieves patient’s vehicles upon arrival and departure from the hospital in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  2. Directs and assists patients and visitors as they enter and exit the hospital parking areas, hospital lobby and their vehicles.
  3. Accurately documents all vehicle tag information, claim numbers, and key storage location.
  4. Ensures that vehicles are returned in the same condition in which they were received.
  5. Works as a team in keeping staging areas clear and maintaining smooth traffic flow in and out of the parking areas/terraces.
  6. Performs simple repair to parking control equipment and assists patients and visitors with minor repairs such as a flat tire or dead battery.
  7. Coordinates with Parking Services and security to patrol and enforce patient/visitor parking areas.
  8. Addresses lighting and safety issues located in the parking areas and assists in keeping areas free of debris.
  9. Assists in emergency situations by directing emergency vehicles and maintaining traffic control as needed.
  10. Investigates and reports accidents within parking valet areas and educates involved patron on how to proceed regarding the damage.
  11. Removes snow and ice from hospital entrance and terrace areas.

    Problem Solving

    The incumbent has the authority to issue special parking permits to those patients and visitors in need, according to the parking services policy; waive violations when necessary; and recommend changes in service to increase efficiency.

    Challenges encountered include creating a positive impression among patients and visitors, for often the first and last experience of the hospital visit is with the parking valet or service officer. The incumbent is also responsible to assist, move or lift patients in an appropriate safe manner into or out of their vehicle or wheelchair; and must be knowledgeable of hospital locations such as offices and clinics, to offer accurate direction to patients and guests.
