Job Summary

Provides messenger service to the hospital by transporting non-ambulatory patients, pharmaceuticals, medical records, lab specimens and blood bank deliveries; and various routine and emergency calls.

Qualifications

Depending on the area of assignment, may be required to have a valid Utah Drivers License and/or a Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire. Must demonstrate human relations and effective communication skills.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

  1. Transfers patients from one hospital area to another.
  2. Handles devices such as intravenous bottles, oxygen masks and tanks, urine drainage bags and blood bags which may be attached to patients during transporting.
  3. Transports expired patients to the morgue on a stretcher.
  4. Picks up and delivers medical records, pharmaceuticals, laboratory specimens, blood, other medical items and mail.

    Comments

    Incumbents face exposure to potentially dangerous contaminated bodily fluids, blood and blood products, chemotherapy solutions and other contaminants as part of the daily hazards of the job.
