University of Utah Job Description
Performs semi-skilled maintenance work that may include building, appliance and shop maintenance work, and assisting maintenance mechanics and trades persons in the performance of their duties as needed.
One year professional work experience performing related duties or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); a valid Utah Driver's License; and the ability to move up to 50 lbs. and climb stepladders and scaffolding required; Demonstrated oral and written communications skills; customer service skills; and the ability to read and write English are also required.
A basic understanding of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, heating, air conditioning, and welding; and the ability to read and work from wiring diagrams, appliance handbooks, blueprints, and drawings is preferred.

Challenges encountered in this position center around the tasks assigned to the incumbent to perform. Some problems that may confront the incumbent include working on old equipment that may be outdated; locating spare parts for needed equipment; having to make modifications for new equipment being installed; or performing comprehensive preventive maintenance on a piece of equipment.
Depending upon the area of assignment, the incumbent may be required to possess hand tools for use in this assignment. This position is generally a training position for the Maintenance Mechanic.
