Job Summary

Provides expert locksmith services to the University by inspecting, repairing, replacing and installing all locks throughout the campus and hospital.

Qualifications

Two years full-time general locksmith experience or equivalency required. Ability to understand the basic requirements of master keying system and to develop appropriate key codes to fit existing master key systems required. Experience with manual and computerized key record and filing system and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Dependent upon department of assignment, a valid Utah driver’s license may be required.

Graduation from an approved locksmith school is preferred.

This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

  1. Assures safety to campus buildings and equipment by maintaining, repairing and installing all locks.
  2. Sets up and maintains all key records and system updates to ensure accurate and current information.
  3. Provides assistance to departments concerning the implementation of new key systems.
  4. Cuts new or replacement keys and files original keys using an approved key control system.
  5. Responds to emergency reports of lockouts, key and lock problems and security requests.

    Problem Solving

    Incumbents are authorized to discuss with each department their security needs to determine the needed course of action. They must follow Plant Operations Key Shop policies and Building and Fire Safety Codes. Incumbents are authorized to order needed parts and supplies in order to accomplish assignments and are responsible for updating all changes in the Key Management systems.
