Job Summary

Designs and drafts working layouts and master drawings for construction projects.

Qualifications

Associate degree in a design related field; two years of practical drafting experience or equivalency; knowledge of drafting techniques and practices; CAD experience; familiarity with fire, electrical, and building codes for the State of Utah; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills is required.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

  1. Designs and drafts working and master drawings for the construction of University facilities, including electrical design, mechanical systems, etc.
  2. Performs mathmatical computations to develop the design and detailed specifications of components.
  3. Interprets design concepts and determines nature and type of detailed working drawings needed.
  4. Analyzes specifications, sketches, engineering drawings, ideas and related design data to determine critical factors affecting design of components.
  5. Discusses specifications and needs with customers.
  6. Prepares and assists in preparing cost estimates.
  7. Organizes the workspace.
  8. Attends meetings as necessary.

Problem Solving

Representative challenges of this position include understanding and meeting the clients' needs by producing accurate designs applying expertise,creativity, and knowledge of building, design, and safety codes.
