Job Title: Animal Support Technician

Job Summary

Provides support to animal-related areas by sorting, disassembling, disinfecting and reassembling animal cages.

 

Qualifications

Six months experience in an animal, laboratory or customer service-related field or equivalency; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Ability to move up to 50 pounds may be required in some areas.

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Essential Functions

  1. Sorts, disassembles, disinfects and reassembles animal cages.
  2. Operates autoclaves, washers and cleaning machinery.
  3. Performs simple maintenance of washing equipment.
  4. Informs maintenance staff or management of any active or potential problems.
  5. Maintains proper inventory levels of cage washing disinfectant, bedding and feed supplies.
  6. Completes proper documentation of all duties performed.
  7. Transports cages and supplies between different locations.
  8. Recommends improvements in efficiency and quality.
  9. Maintains an understanding of departmental objectives and applicable regulations.

Problem Solving

Incumbents determine the order of daily work based on customer needs and strictly adhere to standard operating procedures in all operations; supervisory approval is needed for any deviation.

Comments

Incumbents regularly work in a damp and loud environment. They lift, carry, push and pull heavy loads on an intermittent basis and experience considerable standing, bending and stooping. Incumbents also work with potentially hazardous materials and chemicals. Proper protective attire is provided.
