Dual Career Services Program

Purpose

The University of Utah has established a Dual Career Services Program through the Human Resources Division. Our goal is to enhance the University's ability to recruit and retain faculty and staff who must relocate to accept a regular position (full-time, permanent, and fully benefits-eligible) at the University, and for whom a partner's employment is an issue. The program is designed to assist the accompanying partner in identifying career opportunities in the Salt Lake City area.

Process & Services

The Dual Career Services Coordinator will act as the contact person for the program. Our intention is to keep the process simple, as outlined below:

When it is clear that an offer of employment may be made to a faculty or staff who will relocate to Utah for a regular position (full-time, permanent and fully benefits-eligible) at the U, the Dean, Department Chair or Director will notify the Dual Career Services Coordinator if there is a partner who requests assistance finding employment and will provide contact information. The Coordinator will then provide the following services to the accompanying partner.

  • Match job skills/experience with available employment opportunities and resources, both on campus and in the community.
  • Communicate with Karen Dace, Associate VP for Diversity, in cases when providing temporary funding may allow a partner to obtain a position at the University.

Conditions

While we will make every effort to assist partners who are seeking employment, our services will be governed by the following conditions:

  • Assistance may in no way interfere with or compromise the integrity of the University’s normal hiring policies and practices.
  • Assistance remains in compliance with all affirmative action and equal employment opportunity requirements.
  • Assistance will be provided regardless of the rank, classification or function of the person requesting assistance, as long as the faculty or staff member is relocating to Salt Lake City in order to accept employment at the University of Utah.
  • Assistance is not necessarily a guarantee or a promise of employment.

In summary, the Dual Career Services Coordinator will help accompanying partners of faculty and staff:

  1. establish a network of contacts on and off campus;
  2. identify work openings on and off campus;
  3. establish relationships with possible employers; and
  4. provide contacts for the relocation process.
