Job Summary

Responsible for the purchasing, inventory, and distribution of custodial supplies and the maintenance of all custodial equipment to ensure adequate supplies and equipment in good working order are available to custodial crews to efficiently do their job.

Qualifications

Four years of stockroom or storeroom experience where purchasing, inventory control and delivery have been the primary duties; demonstrated oral and written communications skills; and personal computer skills required.

Essential Functions

  1. Supervises the operation of the custodial storeroom to include all purchasing and distribution of supplies and equipment.
  2. Receives towel orders from the crew leaders each morning and instructs storekeeper to make up orders of clean towels to be delivered.
  3. Meets with vendors representatives to evaluate and suggest new products and equipment. Informs custodial supervisors and manager of new products, equipment and techniques available and determine whether they want to test and evaluate those products or equipment.
  4. Maintains records for the storeroom to include supplies inventory, equipment inventory, budget and purchasing records and records on equipment repairs. Conducts storeroom inventory annually.
  5. Sends equipment for repair by determining which pieces are under warranty and sending those to the authorized repair facility. Equipment that is out of warranty is sent to the Electrical Shop for repair.
  6. Coordinates the washing of windows in all buildings on campus by arranging contractors and overseeing the work.
  7. Keeps up-to-date on new products and new techniques by reading manufacturer's literature and trade journals.
  8. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, terminates and is responsible for other personnel actions within his/her area.
  9. Ensures that adequate supplies and equipment are on hand for the custodial crew to be able to perform their duties.
  10. Provides equipment that is state-of-the-art and in good mechanical condition.
  11. Ensures that new products and equipment are made available to the area supervisors for testing and evaluation before purchasing.

    Problem Solving

    The incumbent has the authority to expend funds assigned to him/her to purchase authorized custodial goods. New products and equipment are tested and evaluated and discussed before formal approval is given to order the product or equipment.

    The most frequent problems encountered in this position may include insuring that all chemicals are labeled correctly; making sure that adequate supplies are on hand to handle seasonal usages; and maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment because of the size of the operation and the movement of equipment.
