Job Summary
Serves as a mentor, trainer and senior technician of the Neurophysiological Monitoring Program. Performs specialized electroencephalographic (EEG), neurodiagnostic procedures. Operates various types of monitoring equipment, documenting observations to collect diagnostic patient data used in detecting brain and neurovascular abnormalities. Provide neurophysiological monitoring during orthopedic, neurosurgical and vascular OR procedures. These studies include brain and spinal cord monitoring with somatosensory evoked potentials, motor evoked potentials, EEG, EMG and pedicle screw testing as well as brainstem monitoring with brainstem auditory evoked potentials and facial nerve and other cranial nerves monitoring.
This position will work closely with the Clinical Director, Medical Director, and physicians within the neuromonitoring department, ensuring both clinical and technical expertise within the LTM, EEG, and IOM areas of care.
Qualifications
A Bachelors degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience and a current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card. Knowledge of accepted guidelines and criteria for sterile procedures and infection control and of alternate montages, protocols, alternate equipment settings and their effects is required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
Must have one or more of the following registries; R.EEG T, R.EP T, R. NCS T., CNIM

Essential Functions
1. Develops the core clinical competencies for EEG, LTM, and IOM staff in conjunction with the Medical Director.
2. Sets up and calibrates necessary equipment, working with bio-med to trouble shoot and maintain equipment in lab.
3. Applies and utilizes electrode applications appropriate for extended monitoring in critical care settings.
4. Assists with cortical stimulation and mapping, creates custom montages using implanted electrodes or additional non-standard electrodes.
5. Works closely with department manager, Medical Director and physicians in daily function and operations of department.
6. Applications of neuroanatomy and normal physiological function.
7. Recognizes significant surgical events.
8. Operates various non-invasive monitoring devices.
9. Records observations and analyzes test data to ensure appropriate data is collected.
10. Performs advanced procedures for epilepsy, evoked potential and transcranial Doppler studies.
11. Maintains lab equipment, institutes quality control procedures, troubleshoots malfunctions and performs minor repairs.
12. Assists in training technicians, medical students and residents.
13. Presents patient data in case conferences.
