Job Summary
Coordinates with physicians and donors to collect, process and test umbilical cord blood. Collects and processes maternal blood samples.
Qualifications
Certification as a phlebotomist or medical assistant plus two year experience in phlebotomy or equivalency required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
An Associate degree or Certification as a phlebotomist or Medical Assistant and cord blood collection experience preferred. Proficiency in English and Spanish also preferred.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Essential Functions
Problem Solving
Incumbent acts as a liaison between the donor and the health care providers to ensure a successful and adequate collection of cord blood and that an accurate medical history is taken. These are required to ensure the sample is accepted for future transplant.
Comments
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
