Job Title: Benefits Compliance Officer

Job Summary

Oversees the University's plan administration for health, welfare and retirement. Ensures compliance of plans with federal and state regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field plus three years experience in health, welfare, and/or retirement administration or equivalency. Through knowledge of applicable Internal Revenue Services (IRS), Department of Labor (DOL), and Employee Retirement Income Security (ERISA) regulations required.

Paralegal certification and Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation preferred. Experience in health, welfare and/or retirement administration and plan design or preparation and review of Third Party Administrator (TPA) contracts or Plan Documents preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of actuarial concepts and practices preferred. Additional years of experience may also be preferred.

This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Essential Functions

  1. Ensures compliance and timely filing of all government forms.
  2. Organizes and conducts comprehensive compliance audits to ensure compliance with IRS and DOL statues.
  3. Works closely with claims administrators, consultants and legal advisors to develop and finalize administrative contracts and Plan Documents.
  4. Negotiates with vendors regarding plan design, researches and recommends to management plan designs that address the benefits needs of university staff and faculty.
  5. Designs communication packages including Summary Plan Descriptions and summaries of annual reports and material modifications.
  6. Coordinates annual health, welfare and retirement plan actuarial valuations and audit requests.
  7. Participates in training department staff in health, welfare and retirement programs.
