Job Summary

Responsible for the administrative, technical, and supervisory applications for the MRI department and Medical Imaging Research Lab (MIRL). The primary goal is to interact with physicians, physicists, technologists and third parties in the development of MRI research for clinical employment’s. This includes the development of new pulse sequences and other applications such as Spiral CT, MR Angiography, Spectroscopy, Echo Planar Imaging, and High Speed Imaging.

Qualifications

Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah; graduation from an AMA approved school in Radiologic training; three years of MRI experience; and registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalency. The incumbent must possess a Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Essential Functions

  1. Develops new research protocols for imaging on both the CT and MRI system.
  2. Develops and evaluates quality improvement procedures for CT and MRI equipment, computer equipment and software.
  3. Coordinates training and the continuing education program for both CT and MRI Technologist.
  4. Coordinates and communicates with patients for internal and pharmaceutical research exams.
  5. Processes computer image data to optimize research discoveries and maintains computer data organization.
  6. Maintains records for all National Institute of Health grants.
  7. May perform the work of MRI Technologists.
  8. Participates on hospital committees and meetings.

Problem Solving

This position has the authority to determine research-scheduling priorities. The incumbent also has the authority to ensure that MRI volunteers and researchers follow U.S. Department of Health and Human Services medical device safety guidelines and standard department screening and safety guidelines. Challenges encountered by the incumbent include developing; learning and optimizing MRI scan sequences to maximize efficiency and the ability to educate department staff on new procedures.

The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
