Job Summary
Provides internal regulation of controlled substance by ordering, receiving, distributing,and recording controlled substance use for the University Hospitals and Clinics.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in science or a related area, or equivalency; demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology within one year of employment; and demonstrated human relation, effective communication, and computer literacy skills required.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Essential Functions
Problem Solving
This position perform duties under the general supervision of a Pharmacist. Incumbents are authorized to order,restock, and audit use of medications with the potential for diversion and/or abuse. Challenges encountered by the incumbent include assisting in the investigation of incidences involving potential controlled substance abuse; assisting with the University Narcotic Division and the Attorney General’s office when it prosecutes criminal cases; and operating and maintaining automated dispensing devices.
Comments
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
