Basic Travel Assistance Services
No Purchase Required for University Employees
University of Utah employees in benefit-eligible positions are provided access to basic travel assistance services through
The Hartford Travel Assistance program. This assistance is available for both personal/leisure, and University-affiliated travel
- domestic and international. This travel assistance policy covers employees and their eligible family members when they are traveling
more than 100 miles from home for 90 days or less. Travel assistance includes:
- Pre-trip travel information
- Identify Theft Resolution services
- Assistance with medical referrals, monitoring, and medical evacuations
- Assistance with repatriation and return of mortal remains (related to an emergency medical situation only)

International Travel Insurance and Assistance Coverage
Purchase Required for University-affiliated International Travel (Travel insurance is a University of Utah approved travel expense)
The University of Utah Interim Travel Safety and Insurance Rule (2016)
outlines the travel registration and insurance enrollment requirements for all University-affiliated travel to international locations. All
University members are required to enroll in University of Utah Group International Health Insurance Coverage for their dates of international travel.
Instructions for completing this enrollment are automatically provided through the Travel Services Department, as a direct result of pre-registering
international travel. See the Office for Global Engagement’s Travel Safety Webspace for
more information about insurance enrollment and coverage.
International Travel Insurance and Assistance Coverage includes:
- Health/Medical Coverage (accident and sickness) in all locations outside the United States; 100% coverage benefit
- 24/7 Emergency Telephone Assistance (emergency medical transportation services, medical referrals, medical monitoring, payment assistance, legal issues, etc.)
- Emergency Medical and Security Evacuation – Emergency and non-emergency evacuation services in the event of a natural disaster, emergency medical event (disease outbreak, etc.), or security incident.
