Health Care Coverage

University employees in benefit-eligible positions at 50% FTE or greater, are eligible to participate in the Employee Health Care Plan.

Enrolled employees may also enroll their eligible dependents.

The University of Utah Employee Health Care Plan has two Plan Design Options and two Network Options from which to choose.

Review the Summary Comparison for highlights of each option (including network provider information, annual deductibles, coinsurance percentages, copayments, out-of-pocket maximums, and prescription drug coverage) and rate information:

  • Summary Comparison of Medical and Dental Benefits

Coverage Highlights:

  • Services covered under all plan options is the same. The Plan Design Options vary in the way the plan pays for eligible services.
  • The University pays approximately 90% of the cost of health care coverage.
  • Employee rates are paid through pre-tax payroll deductions for family members other than a domestic partner and domestic partner’s children.
    • Because a domestic partner is not a recognized dependent under current tax law, the portion of premiums an employee pays for a domestic partner and domestic partner’s children will be paid with after-tax dollars. In addition, the employee will be taxed on the amount the department contributes for the domestic partner and domestic partner’s children.
