Home Public Service Loan Forgiveness

The University of Utah is a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). As an employee at the University, you may qualify to have a portion of your student loan forgiven if you have worked the required amount of time. If you are using the online PSLF tool you can request to have your forms sent to us at AskHR@utah.edu.

To qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Work for a qualifying employer – the University is a qualifying employer.
  2. Work full time.
  3. Have a federal direct loan.
  4. Be enrolled in a qualifying repayment plan.
  5. Make 120 total loan payments with a qualifying employer.

The Fidelity website has a Public Service Loan Forgiveness tool which may help you qualify for PSLF. For more information, please visit Fidelity's website or view the flyers (How Do I Qualify For Public Service Loan Forgiveness, Public Service Loan Forgiveness Checklist).

The SAVI Public Service Loan Forgiveness tool is also available through TIAA. For information on the SAVI tool, see TIAA's website.

You do not need to have a retirement account with either vendor to be able to use the Fidelity or TIAA tool.

If you need your PSLF form signed by a University representative, please send it to Human Resources via encrypted email.
