Can I work overtime hours through the UTemps Program?
  • Time worked on campus beyond 40 hours in a week and paid at time and one-half is overtime.  UTemps Employees may work overtime hours only with their supervisor’s approval.  Please ask your supervisor if you are allowed to work overtime hours.  Overtime hours cannot be transferred to Compensatory (Comp) Time due to your temporary employment status.
Can I earn Compensatory Time (Comp Time)?
  • Departments are not permitted to offer Comp Time to their UTemp in lieu of Overtime pay.  This is because of the uncertainty of whether you will be in your temporary department long enough to take advantage of comp time.  All overtime will be paid out at the end of the pay period that the overtime hours occurred.
Do I receive Holiday Pay?
  • Departments are not required to give Holiday Pay to UTemps employees.  It is up to the department to decide whether to give holiday pay or not.  Please feel free to ask your supervisor what they are willing to do.
Do I receive University Closure Pay?
  • Though departments are not required to pay a UTemp employee for a closure day, UTemps recommends that departments pay closure pay to their UTemps employees that are working the equivalent of the position listed in the closure pay description. By that we mean, they are temping for a position that is normally a regular benefitted position of .50 FTE or higher.
Do I accrue Sick & Vacation hours?
  • UTemps do not accrue Sick and Vacation hours.  If Sick or Vacation pay is entered in Kronos by your temporary department, it will alert them that you have no accrual hours available for use.  However, the department may still enter it to record absences for their own reports.
Will I get benefits as a UTemps employee?
  • All UTemps employees are eligible for a FREE UTA Ed-Pass (TRAX and bus pass)
  • As an employee of the University of Utah, UTemps employees receive staff discounts throughout the University as well as the use of other University Services.
  • UTemps employees are considered temporary employees and are therefore not eligible for medical benefits.
