Temporary employees are required to abide by and follow the human resource policies for the University of Utah as well as any department procedures and policies of their employing department. Internal procedures within an office or department are generally not included in the human resources policies, so UTemps are asked to check with the individual department they are currently working for to find out about department policies or procedures.
Along with adhering to human resources policies and procedures, UTemp employees are also required to abide by the UTemps Program policies and procedures as outlined below.
Code of Conduct
- Absenteeism or Tardiness
- While on a temporary assignment, if a UTemp is going to be late for work, need to leave early, or need to take an extended lunch break, he/she must have approval from his/her department supervisor beforehand. Excessive tardiness or absenteeism may result in termination.
- All temporary employees should be at their designated work areas and ready to begin working at their start time.
- Excused absences require the prior approval of your department manager. Planned absences are to be kept to a minimum and at least 72 hours notice should be provided. UTemp employees should contact both UTemps and their department of their absences.
- The following are grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal:
- Excessive absenteeism
- Tardiness
- Unapproved extended lunches/breaks
- Failure to notify your staffing consultant of any absence or tardiness
- As with performance issues, please contact a UTemps Representative with any concerns.
Personal Phone Calls
- Personal calls are not permitted by any temporary employee. Failure to adhere to this policy may result in dismissal. Personal calls are only to be made during breaks or lunch periods or due to emergencies.
Dress Code Policy
- A UTemps Representative will inform the temporary employee of the specific dress code when they are sharing the assignment details with the temporary employee.
- Temporary employees are aware that some assignments require professional dress. If this is the case, they are encouraged to wear appropriate attire: suites for men and suites/professional dress for women.
- Generally, temporary employees are encouraged to wear professional business casual with an overall conservative appearance.
