UUHSC Immunization Information
Immunization Policy
Prior to employment, newly hired employees at University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics (UUHC)
are responsible for obtaining the necessary immunizations and/or documentation of their immunizations and submitting this documentation to their hiring department prior to their first day of employment.
All UUHC Staff Must Comply With the Following Health/Immunization Requirements:
- A tuberculin skin test within two months of hire date, which includes written documentation* of the TB skin test result in millimeters, read 48 to 78 hours after the test was placed. If the test is
positive, or prior skin tests were positive, documentation of a chest x-ray result is required. After hire, the skin test must be repeated annually.
- Rubeola (Measles) and Rubella immunity: Documentation* of two MMRs (Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunizations), since 1970; or documentation* of disease by physician or other health care provider; or
documentation* of blood titer or antibody screen results showing immunity is required.
- Tetanus and Diphtheria booster–employee to provide date of immunization within last ten years.
- Hepatitis B Vaccine–The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard rule requires that any employee who may have occupational exposure to blood, bodily fluids or other potentially infectious materials as a
routine part of their responsibilities must: within 10 days of start date begin their hepatitis B vaccination series through Employee Infection Control Clinic at University Hospital, or state that they
have been vaccinated or are immune, or sign a Hepatitis B vaccination declination (available from Employee Infection Control). Employee Infection Control will provide this vaccination free of charge
within 10 days of start date.
