About the Staff Excellence Awards
The Staff Excellence Awards Program was established in 1992 to recognize superior service and ongoing contributions by the University of Utah's full-time staff employees. Six awards are presented annually to staff employees selected by the Vice President for Human Resources. The award amount for 2008 for the Staff Excellence Awards has been increased to $5000. In addition to the $5000 honorarium, each winner will receive a special plaque, and their names added to a perpetual plaque which includes all previous recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards. The perpetual plaque is permanently displayed in the Human Resources Building at 420 Wakara Way.
In 2006, the nomination process for this awards program was changed. In previous years, nominations were solicited from across campus. The program would normally receive about 70 nominations. Our goal in changing the nomination process was to recognize a larger number of deserving staff. In addition, in 2007, the name of the program was changed from the Presidential Staff Awards to the Staff Excellence Awards.
In order to recognize the exceptional contribution of a much larger number of staff at the University of Utah, twenty-four district staff awards will be given to staff employees throughout the University. These awards have been divided among the vice presidents areas according to the percent of staff who work in that area.
Health Sciences has been divided into 2 districts: Hospital/Clinics and Other Health Sciences which is comprised of the Office of the VP for Health Sciences, School of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health, College of Pharmacy, Health Sciences Development Office, and Health Sciences Library.
The Office of the President, VP for Institutional Advancement/University Relations/Development, VP for Human Resources, VP for Research, VP for General Counsel, VP for Technology Venture Development, VP for Government Relations, Athletics, Office of Information Technology, and University Neighborhood Partners have been combined into the General Administration District.
The nominee's District is based on the vice president to which his or her department reports. To determine which District the nominee belongs to, go to http://www.admin.utah.edu/

These twenty-four district staff awards will be the pool from which the six recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards are chosen. All twenty-four district award recipients will be recognized in their respective areas and at the Staff Excellence Awards luncheon. The final six recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards will be announced at the luncheon.
Faculty and staff employees are encouraged to nominate a STAFF employee for this prestigious award from any of the six Districts who meets the eligibility criteria by downloading the nomination form.
A Selection Committee, coordinated by the University of Utah Staff Council (UUSC), will judge the nominees on Service Excellence and Commitment to the University and present the proposed list of recipients to the Vice President for Human Resources for final selection.
