About the University Staff Excellence Awards

The Staff Excellence Awards Program was established in 1992 to recognize superior service and ongoing contributions by the University of Utah's full-time staff employees. Six awards are presented annually to staff employees selected by the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).  In  2008 the Award was increased to $5000. In addition to the honorarium, each winner receives a special plaque, and their names added to a perpetual plaque which includes all previous recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards. The perpetual plaque is permanently displayed in the Human Resources Building at 420 Wakara Way.

In 2006, the nomination process for this awards program was changed. In previous years, nominations were solicited from across campus. The selection committee would normally receive about 70 nominations from which the six recipients were selected. The new program allows recognition of the exceptional contribution of a much larger number of staff at the University of Utah, twenty-four district staff awards are given to staff employees throughout the University. These awards have been divided into six vice presidential districts based on a percentage of the number of staff who work in that area.

Health Sciences is divided into 2 districts: Hospital/Clinics and Other Health Sciences which is comprised of the Office of the VP for Health Sciences, School of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Health, College of Pharmacy, Health Sciences Development Office, and Health Sciences Library.

The Office of the President, VP for Institutional Advancement/University Relations/Development, Office of the CHRO, VP for Research, VP for General Counsel, VP for Technology Venture Development, VP for Government Relations, Athletics, Office of Information Technology, and University Neighborhood Partners have been combined into the General Administration District. The nominee's District is based on the vice president to which his or her department reports.

To determine which District the nominee belongs, go to http://www.admin.utah.edu/ or download the Presidential Organizational Chart.
