11. Position Classification

NEW POSITIONS

A new position is one that will be used for the first time in a department. It is not a position that is being vacated by a previous employee. The necessary information must be sent to Human Resources for review prior to the posting of the position.


RECLASSIFICATIONS

A reclassification occurs when the duties of a position no longer correspond to the duties indicated on the job description maintained by Human Resources. The appropriate documents must be completed and sent to Human Resources to initiate a potential reclassification action.


RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Deans, Directors, Department Heads and Supervisors
  • Responsible for submitting the appropriate paperwork to Human Resources and for working with Human Resources to establish the appropriate job title and salary grade for the position.

  • Human Resources
  • Responsible for working with the department to establish an appropriate job title and salary grade for each new position. May meet with the incumbent and/or the supervisor to discuss the duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Employees
  • Responsible for completing the necessary questionnaire and additional paperwork as requested. May be responsible for meeting with Human Resources to discuss the duties and responsibilities of the position.
