Job Summary
Conceptualizes, articulates and implements artistic and fiscal policy for the University\'s professional theatre company, produces theatrical productions, and directs individual theatrical productions.

Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Humanities or a related field, or equivalency, plus 5 years experience required. Effective communication skills, ability to deal with diverse creative personalities, and a commitment to provide excellent customer service are also required.Three to five years as an Artistic Director, or Assistant in a non-profit professional theatre is highly desirable. A knowledge of operating procedures in technical and administrative areas, and access to a nation-wide talent pool is also important. Essential Functions
- Selects and schedules annual plays for presentation by the Pioneer Theatre Company, based on standard criteria.
- Chooses artistic and technical personnel, hires guest directors, designers, choreographers, resident actors, and assists in selecting cast members; negotiates fees and contracts.
- Oversees production activities for individual plays, acts as arbitrator, provides guidance to guest directors, makes budget allocations, and works with designers for visual impact.
- Approves marketing/advertising materials used for publicity, represents and promotes the theatre on radio and TV interviews, and in speaking to national and community organizations.
- Coordinates efforts of administrative personnel by integrating ideas and implementing artistic policy decisions.
- Writes position papers/policy statements to secure government, corporate and foundation, or individual financial support.
- Creates long and short range plans, determines appropriate departmental policies/procedures, and makes budget expenditures.
- Directs a select number of productions each year.
