Job Title:  Architect

Job Summary

Coordinates the planning, programming, designing and construction of University campus-wide facilities to ensure that all new construction and alterations comply with University standards, local and national building codes, and departmental requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor\'s Degree in Architecture, a related area, or equivalency; current licensure with the State of Utah as an Architect; and demonstrated human relations and effective written and verbal communication skills required.

Essential Functions

  1. Coordinates the initial meeting with the client to determine the needs of the client, the extent of the project, and to prepare the program.
  2. Designs the requested project by preparing a schematic drawing and a budget cost estimation sheet to help visualize the project and the costs involved, or coordinate these activities through a design consultant.
  3. Completes the design development by meeting with the engineering consultant and preparing advance drawings depicting the HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other requirements of the construction project, or coordinates these activities through a design consultant.
  4. Oversees the preparation of the final bid documents by completing the drawing and specifications for the construction project prior to sending the plans out for the bidding process, or coordinates these activities through a design consultant.
  5. Oversees the construction of minor projects to ensure that the contractors are following the construction documents.
  6. Works with specialty consultants such as interior designers, acoustical engineers, landscape architects, and food service designers, to receive advice and expertise in the construction and design project.
  7. Maintains a written chronological report of actions transpired and decisions made throughout the project.
  8. Approves pay requests of consultants, vendors and contractors for services rendered.

Problem Solving

This position has the authority to make decisions affecting the scope of the project in its development stages. The incumbent also makes design and material selection decisions satisfying the program and the client. This position represents the University in the programming and development of construction documents and makes decisions in the construction process which best represents the University\'s interest.
Comments

The incumbent should be able to demonstrate competency in programming, site planning, architectural design, interior design and space planning, and have knowledge of structural, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and have an understanding of all applicable building codes.
