Performs technical functions relating to the administration of anesthesia, and ensuring adequate supplies are maintained.

Qualifications
Two years of health care related experience or equivalency; Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.Anesthesia or operating room experience preferred.
Positions in the operating room are preferred to have Health Care Assistant registration; and Associate\'s Degree in Science or equivalency; completion of an Emergency Medical Technician or Medical Assistant program; and/or certification as an Anesthesia Technician or Technologist. Assignment in the operating room requires certification as an autologous blood transfusionist within 6 months of hire.

Essential Functions
- Prepares and sets up equipment for Anesthesia procedures.
- Assists Anesthesiologist with monitoring, induction, and intubation of patients.
- Cleans and sterilizes anesthesia instruments and equipment.
- Orders anesthesia supplies and equipment, and ensures the workroom, carts, and outreach areas are well stocked.
- Maintains department equipment by evaluating performance, inspecting for defects, and scheduling repairs.
- Orients, teaches, and oversees volunteers in the operating room and anesthesia workroom.
- May perform cell saving and intra operating room blood salvage, assists in placement of intravenous infusion lines and invasive pressure monitoring devices and lines.
- May assist anesthesiologist with transporting and monitoring patients.
- May meets with sales representatives from medical supply companies.

Problem Solving
This position has the authority to make individual decisions regarding the ordering of supplies and maintenance of equipment. The incumbent is required to make independent judgments in assessing the needs of the Anesthesiologist by anticipating what equipment is needed and how it would best be procured on a day-to-day basis. Challenges encountered by the incumbent include daily monitoring and maintenance of equipment and supplies, keeping adequate stock in the workroom and anesthesia carts due to difficult cases and high case load days, and initiating appropriate action in emergency/crisis situations.

Comments
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age
of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span
growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's
policies and procedures manual.
