The University of Utah, located in beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah, is seeking a Chief Human Resources Officer.

The Chief Human Resources Officer reports directly to the President and provides strategic leadership, program development, and implementation of human resource functions and initiatives on the main campus. The specific functional areas which report to the Chief Human Resources Officer are:

  • Benefits program development and administration
  • Organizational development and workforce planning
  • Compensation and payroll
  • Employee relations
  • Employee recognition programs
  • Dual career services
  • Training and development
  • Equal opportunity/affirmative action
  • Absence management
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Human resources consulting services
  • Human resources information systems

The Human Resources Division provides these services for the academic and administrative entities of the University of Utah.

The University of Utah is a major teaching and research university and is the flagship institution of the Utah System of Higher Education. As one of the largest employers in the state, the University has approximately 18,000 employees including hospitals and clinics employees and 29,000 students. The University's benefit programs, other than retirement, are specific to the University and are not part of state-wide programs.

Candidates for the position must meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Be a seasoned human resources executive with significant professional experience
  • Be very proactive, customer focused, possess strong relationship building skills, able to deal with ambiguity, and highly skilled at achieving consensus
  • Be high energy, innovative, and visible
  • Have solid financial skills
  • Be a highly skilled communicator, facilitator, and listener
  • Have strong presentation skills
  • Be a person of high integrity

Masters degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field, or equivalent, is expected and a minimum of approximately ten years of relevant HR experience is required. Experience in building community/organization partnerships, strong supervisory and management skills, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Ph.D. in a related field and experience in higher education is preferred.
