Staff Development and Educational Opportunities

Numerous opportunities are available to employees for furthering their education through formal degree programs or continuing education programs.

Tuition Reduction

  • Full-time salaried employees, who have completed a probationary period of six months, are eligible for 50 percent tuition reduction for most University of Utah courses.
  • Available also to spouses after an employee has completed one year of continuous full-time employment.
  • Unmarried dependent children under the age of 26 are also are eligible after the employee has completed three years of continuous service.

Training and Development

  • Part of the Division of Human Resources, ODS provides a variety of training and educational opportunities for staff members to improve existing skills/knowledge and provides for professional development within the organization.

Information Technology Services


Academic Outreach and Continuing Education (AOCE)

  • There's more to LIFE. Classes for every age. Employees can continue their education via AOCE. A variety of classes are available nights and weekends at various locations throughout the valley.

The Intermountain Academy for Leadership

  • Provides career counseling to University of Utah employees and members of the community. A Career Development Specialist can help individuals evaluate occupational skills, interests, abilities, and talents to assist in identifying employment opportunities and objectives.


  • Offers a Higher Education Leadership Certificate series along with a variety of seminars that cover specific areas of expertise and are designed for practical application:
    • Strategic Planning
    • Policy
    • Program Management
    • Managing Change in Higher Education
    • and more
