Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage became available on January 1, 2006. If you or any of your dependents are eligible for Medicare, please see the relevant section below for information on how this will affect your health care coverage through the University.
Employee Health Plan (all options):
The University of Utah has determined that the prescription drug coverage offered in the University of Utah Employee Health Care Plan is, on average for all plan participants, expected to pay out as much as the standard Medicare prescription drug coverage will pay and is considered Creditable Coverage. As a result, those enrolled in the University of Utah Employee Health Care Plan are being advised that they do not need to purchase a separate Medicare prescription drug plan as long as they remain enrolled in the Universitys active employee plan.
For more information on coverage for those enrolled in the University of Utah Employee Health Care Plan, please see the IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH REGARDING YOUR PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE AND MEDICARE.
Retiree Health Plan UU Option:
Prescription drug coverage available under the University of Utah Retiree Health Care Plan UU option changed effective January 1, 2006, for those eligible for Medicare. (For those not eligible for Medicare, prescription drug coverage continues unchanged.) Those individuals enrolled in the Retiree Health Plan UU Option who are eligible must enroll in Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage through Regence Life and Health Medicare Script.
Please see the IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH REGARDING YOUR PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE AND MEDICARE.
Retiree Health Plan H Option:
Prescription drug coverage in the Retiree Plan H option terminated on December 31, 2005.

Help for people with limited income and resources:
There are circumstances when Medicare will waive Part D premiums and beneficiaries dont have to pay Rx out of pocket costs (Part D premiums and co-pays). If you think you might meet the Social Security Administrations low-income criteria, you should contact them on the web at www.socialsecurity.gov or call them at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
